Once again, I had the pleasure and privilege, as a member of media, to cover this year’s edition of Montreal ComicCon. For its 15th edition, there was a lot of buzz surrounding every kind of pop culture’s center of interests, from horror, sci-fi to fantasy. It lasted 3 days, from July 4th to 6th. I couldn’t attend the first day (which was sad, because I missed a panel that I would have LOVE to assist), but still, I was present the next 2 days to get a grasp of what this edition was all about, during a week-end full of nice weather and happy people.
Celebrities from all spheres of pop culture

Every year, there is at least one event, that is not included with the regular convention pass, but that is worth every penny (if you are a fan of the franchise). This year was an extra special one : A Night in the Shire, where Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd and Andy Serkis (playing Frodo, Sam, Peregrin and Gollum respectively) from The Lord of the Rings were present. It consisted of a big panel / Q&A with the audience. I heard that it was a great time. I was unable to attend, but I know that a couple of years ago, I was able to assist to an Evening with Kevin Smith, where it was the same principle. For those that were unable to attend, there was an additional occasion to meet the actors, during autograph sessions happening during the normal time of the convention. One of the highlights was the presence of Andy Serkis, who was all smile and some people waiting for hours to be able to meet him.
There were many more guest celebrities during the 3 days convention, coming from universes as diverse as anime, comic books, horror, sci-fi, etc. Pretty much everyone could find something that is to their likings. Here is a quick sample of some the people that attended the event.

Montreal : a city of videogames
One of the attractions where I spend the most time during the convention is the Indie Game Zone, where independent videogame developers are invited to present the games they are working on. I have talked to people being from “one-person-studio” to members being in a team of a couple of dozen people, and what strikes me every year is the ambition and the variety. I’ve seen adventure, action platformers, family games, board game converted to a videogame, beat-them-up… it is crazy how there is really something for every type of gamer.
I will contact some of those teams following the publication of this article to talk more to them about what I saw, because their games really interest me, and I want to promote that. In the meantime here are the pictures I’ve taken, sharing the titles of those that I’ve tried.

Cosplay: always a must!
A classic activity of the ComicCon weekend is looking out for cosplayer. There is a vibrant community present in Montreal. Every year, I’m amazed by the talent of those that have the capacity to create like that. Again, in terms of the costumes themselves, I’ve seen characters from a lot of different circles of popular cultures. Here are those that I have seen with my own eyes.
Another successful edition
I have now attended most of the 15 editions of Montreal ComicCon, and I can say that every time, it keeps evolving, without sacrificing what makes it pleasurable. Again, with more than 66 000 visitors, it is a sign that we are not tired of it. Pop culture has never been embraced more than recently. Everyone is welcomed : gamers, cosplayers, otakus, and everything in between. Smiles are aplenty. It’s the culmination of all of this that makes it my yearly escapade, and I know that I’ll do again everything in my power to go back next year, going from July 3rd to July 5th 2026. I can’t wait!
